Tiara Kittrell is an editor, acquiring picture books, middle grade, young adult, graphic novels, and nonfiction across all categories for the Putnam Young Readers imprint. Prior to joining Penguin Random House, she was an associate editor at Balzer + Bray/HarperCollins, where she had she acquired books by Alyssa Cole and Nia Davenport. Tiara first entered publishing as a marketing assistant at Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group and assisted on campaigns for Leigh Bardugo, Marissa Meyer, and Katherine Applegate. While she appreciates all genres, her favorites include paranormal, high and grounded fantasy, thriller, horror, and romance. Tiara has a soft spot for diverse, high concept, and emotionally resonant stories. When she’s not working, you can find her watching (arguably) too much TV and annoying her cat, Gus Gus.

Sarah Sather (she/her) joined Nancy Paulsen Books as an Assistant Editor in June 2024. Previously, she worked at Netflix Animation, Marvel Comics, and Saturday Night Live. An avid reader since she could hold a book, Sarah is passionate about supporting and developing diverse content that re-centers marginalized voices, dissolves barriers, and expands the idea of who gets to be the hero of their story. She believes that books are a form of magic, and through them, one might even be able to radically transform the world.

Matt Phipps is an Associate Editor at G. P. Putnam’s Sons, an imprint of Penguin Young Readers, acquiring picture books, middle grade, and YA, including graphic novels for all ages. Prior to joining Putnam in 2020, he spent several years in Penguin’s School and Library Marketing department. He was an Editor Mentor with The Word: A Storytelling Sanctuary and volunteered with the Representation Matters Mentorship Program, in addition to serving on the board of the Penguin Random House LGBTQ+ Network. He has also worked as a bookseller, a Spanish-English translator, and a teacher.

Assistant Editor Jenny Ly joined Kokila and Nancy Paulsen Books in September 2023. She previously worked at HarperCollins, W.W. Norton, and was a former bookseller. At Harper, she assisted on books such as Wei Skates On by Olympian Nathan Chen and Lorraine Nam; the Batchelder Award-winner Just a Girl by Lia Levi, translated by Sylvia Notini; and the #1 NYT bestseller Strange Planet: the Sneaking, Hiding, Vibrating Creature by Nathan Pyle. Jenny is a Bay Area native and now lives in NY. She is a graduate of Smith College and the Columbia Publishing Course.

Tenisha Anderson-Kenkpen, Publishing Assistant

Publishing Assistant Tenisha Anderson-Kenkpen joined Kokila in October 2023. Before Kokila, Tenisha lent her expertise as a legal industry consultant at Lighthouse Global and Epiq. She worked in advertising sales for Maxim and New York Magazine. She co-founded and co-hosted the podcast Speaking of Fashion during the early era of podcasting. She also founded Qlix magazine, an independent art and style publication that garnered global recognition for its unique voice and perspective. Tenisha is a 2023 Fellow of the Los Angeles Review of Books Publishing Workshop and holds degrees from the London College of Communication, Southern Illinois University Carbondale, and Loyola University Chicago. The ideals of empowerment and emotional education inherent to children’s and YA literature align with Tenisha’s core values, as does recognizing diverse voices through all storytelling mediums.
